Renaissance castle
Kronborg is a major castle and stronghold located in Helsingør (Elsinore) north off Copenhagen. Kronborg is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe. Thus, back in 2000 Kronborg castle was declared as a World Heritage Site and added to the UNESCO list.

Interesting facts about Kronborg Castle
The castle is dated back to the 1420′s. Kronborg consists of 9 towers including 4 stair towers without spires. The tallest tower of Kronborg Castle is about 60 meters above sea level.
Due to its strategic location where the strait of Øresund is most narrowest, Kronborg has played a major role not only for the Kingdom of Denmark but for whole Northern Europe. From here the sailing activities to and from the Baltic Sea was strongly controlled.
The total area of the castle is 28,724 square meters. Until 1785 the castle has been residence for the royals. Since 1935 Kronborg has been a museum.

Shakespeare’s play Hamlet is laid to the castle of Elsinore.

Kronborg is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Denmark and is indeed a must see in Denmark.
